In this current political and social climate, it is more important than ever to entertain conversations surrounding justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Each and every student’s experiences and identities contribute to how they interact with the larger community, and how the larger community interacts with them. As students navigate their campuses and surrounding environments, questions of identity, activism and socio-political conditions naturally arise. With the growth of popular political movements and the increase in accessibility of said movements, students are playing a much larger role in political activism, and actually enacting political change.

The Political Engagement Through Empowered Representation (PEER) Conference aims to explore these issues, answering questions such as: What are identity politics? Are free speech and D&I mutually exclusive? What supporting roles can one take behind the scenes of a political movement or grassroots initiative? How do students get involved with the political process?

It is important that students become aware of the benefits and limits of the political system and consequently, how to engage with it. After this conference, you will be equipped with the skills to:

• Understand the purpose and process of political engagement
• Determine what your identity means to you
